Michael Kraus, Owner & President

For more than 30 years, Michael Kraus has been helping the people and trees of Hawai’i co-exist harmoniously. A lifelong lover of all living things, Michael founded Tree Works in 1978 after transitioning from the field of Forestry to Arboriculture. Today, he carries his sprit of dedication forward, providing the highest quality service available and constantly deepening his skills and understanding of the environment. As an ISA Certified Arborist and Utility Specialist, Michael serves as an urban forestry advisor to the Hawai’i Mayors’ Arborist Advisory Committee, the Kaulunani Council, and the Outdoor Circle. He is the primary consultant for Tree Works, leveraging his decades of experience and passion for arboriculture and forestry to cultivate lasting relationships with his clients.

Mark Young, Arborist

Originally from Pennsylvania, Mark was encouraged to learn about the trees in his environment at an early age. He was trained by certified arborists, mastering the art of climbing, master rigging, crane work and groundwork over the last 12 years. While he’s relatively new to Tree Works—having started two years ago—Mark isn’t going anywhere. “Tree Works is my ‘Ohana and I honestly think there’s no better place out there,” says Mark. “It’s kind of a dying breed in that we make decisions based on what’s best for workers, customers and the environment.”

John Mayfield, Arborist

John grew up running around the tropical jungles of the Philippines, which is where he discovered his lifelong love for climbing trees. He started in the industry as a grounds man, hauling brush to the chipper. But for John, this wasn’t cutting it. He knew he had to be back up in the trees to truly foster his passion, and stuck around on the “ground floor” of his first job until he got the opportunity. Twenty years later, John is still climbing. He recently acquired his certified arborist credential through ISA and has been with Tree Works for more than six years. “This is the best company I’ve ever worked for,” says John. “We operate with the mindset that safety and productivity are paramount—and no matter where you are, you need to make every move count.”
